All About the Instruments!

Read below to learn about all of the instruments offered in band at Willard!

Baritone

Baritone

Mellow, low sounds. Low Brass instrument. Rented from the school and students leave one at home and one at school so they only bring the mouthpiece to school

Bassoon

Bassoon

Woodwind instrument that plays low sounds using a double reed. Students who play bassoon need to take private lessons from a bassoonist.

Clarinet

Clarinet

Woodwind instrument with a warm sound using a single reed. Can play low and high notes! Need a LOT of clarinets in a band!

Flute

Flute

Woodwind instrument that produces high notes by blowing lots of air across a hole.

French Horn

French Horn

Brass instrument that makes a mellow, warm sound. Can play high and low.

Oboe

Oboe

Woodwind instrument that uses a double reed. Higher pitched with a unique sound. Students who play oboe need to take private lessons in order to be successful.

Saxophone

Saxophone

Woodwind instrument that uses a single reed to make a deep, loud sound. Made of brass and is heaviest woodwind instrument.

Trumpet

Brass instrument with a bright sound. Plays sounds using a smaller mouthpiece

Percussion

Percussion

Students who learn percussion learn both xylophone & snare drum (not drum set). Piano background is helpful!

Trombone

Trombone

A Low Brass instrument. Produces crisp, low sounds using a slide instead of keys. Bands need lots of trombonists!

Tuba

Tuba

The anchor of the band! Plays low notes and has a full, deep sound. All students will carry only a mouthpiece to school. Students will have one instrument to keep at home and one to use at school.
